Jessie, an eight month old trainee at America's VetDogs.
She is being trained to provide enhanced mobility and renewed independence to veterans, active duty service members and first responders with disabilities, allowing them to once again live with pride and self-reliance. The dogs provide physical support, open doorways and refrigerators (to retrieve medications) as well as other highly skilled activities to individuals with physical injuries, PTSD, hearing and vision loss, and seizures. The mission of America's VetDogs is to help those who have served our country live with dignity and independence. All services are provided at no cost to the recipient including transportation to and from their campus in Smithtown, NY, instruction and board while training together with their new service dog. Training of each dog is approximately $60,000 which comes from the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses, and community organizations.
