Floral Arrangements for Hospice House 3/2023
Pat Price has organized a wonderful opportunity for the AGC to give back to the community through John Makofske, who is overseeing the program. John volunteers at Hospice on Wednesday mornings, and he had an idea to work with the owner of Nolan's funeral home to rather than throwing out the flowers after an event, the flowers would be donated to Hospice. Volunteers from AGC will "rearrange" the donations to make them cheery. 20 Asharoken Garden Club members have volunteered!

Asharoken Village Hall Grounds Planted
May 2, 2016
The first phase of the planting of the Village Hall grounds was completed on May 3. The central bed as well as the foundation area were planted with perennials and shrubs that are salt and deer resistant, low maintenance and draught tolerant. Grass, beach rose, ilex, juniper, perovskia, sedum and sedge were combined with existing grasses and barberry. The Asharoken Garden Club contributed the design as well as a $1000 donation towards the landscaping material and installation. An equal amount was received through donations. Carolyn Hyatt-Basche, Pam Pierce and Jamie Pierce of the garden club collaborated on the design. The two flanking roadside beds will be done in the future as funds or donations become available. The village and the club have a long relationship spanning decades with Village Hall being used for club board meetings and the grounds being planted with flowers by club members. The planting followed an April 30th Arbor Day planting of two large trees; a River Birch (shown above right and below left) and a Colorado Blue Spruce. The trees were funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Seedlings of Pitch Pine were distributed to all who attended.
